31 Days Keto/OMAD/Candida Review

This is the 2nd update of my health journey. You can read the 14 Day Review, for a comprehensive guide on how I started, the supplements, habits, and food items I’m using, and why, here: https://moonbasemgtow.com/2019/09/30/14-days-keto-omad-anti-candida-diet-review/

Notable Changes

Meal and Exercise Times

The first difference from two weeks ago was changing my exercises from fasted to fed-state.

I understood the benefits of increased HGH levels and fat loss, but I found prolonged fasting with just one meal was affecting not only my workout performance, but even my ability to work my day job, as I got bored and sleepy very easily at my computer.

However, my context is that I have assigned myself 1,300 calories a day, so if you are eating more than that in one meal, you may be able to coast through your fasting periods much easier than I can.

Cravings/Cheating

Prior to now, I have never made it to 30 days of strict Keto in over a year of practicing the diet.

I’ve always noticed a substantial change after Week 3, and this time it specifically started on Day 23.

It could be the hedonic treadmill, as the restricted food list starts to become monotonous.

Specifically, my dopamine hit a flat-line, and it was hard to get out of bed the morning of Day 23. The junk foods that I was previously physically repulsed by were now a bit more intriguing.

I have taken big whiffs of donut boxes. Smelled cookies. Spent a little extra time reading ingredient labels for sugary cereals and ice creams.

But this time, I would prevail.

Although I did break the OMAD routine, I at least kept it sugar free and Ketogenic by indulging in Almond Butter, 100% Dark Chocolate, and mixed nuts.

My baseline has been raised. Confirmed.

The only foods I would consider hard-cheating was one bag of Pork Rinds (0 carbs and sugar, but processed), and a Gyro Platter from Halal Guys (the white sauce/hot sauce probably has vinegar/some sugar in it). But it was a free platter for my birthday, come on!

What’s getting me over the hump though is the fact that I do cook all my own meals. When I look at desserts now, I always remember that the home-made versions always tasted so much better!

So, until my Candida heals, I think I’m okay putting the sweet tooth away, and will be more interested in baking ketogenic desserts myself, or continue to shop around for low-sugar alternatives.

Candida/Digestion

The Candida Thrush seems to be about 40-50% reduced, so that’s great. I’ve also changed my oil pulling time from before bed to the morning, as more bacteria would accumulate during the hours I am sleeping.

Although the thrush doesn’t seem to be adversely affected, eating nuts, nut butter, and dark chocolate six days in a row since Day 25 has impacted my digestion.

I am more constipated, and my stool has been floating (bad) instead of sinking to the bottom like before. I should definitely stay off of it and return to the OMAD routine.

The die-off symptoms, rash-like itching on my chest, has calmed down a ton. However, they are now dull but inactive brown spots on my chest and upper back. You can get an idea of it if you look up “Keto Rash” (link below), but my symptoms are quite mild compared to other pictures you can see.

Things I’ll Be Looking Out For

Triggers

Day 27 was a Saturday, and that happens to be one of the busiest days in my home with lots of guests and activity from other housemates that disrupts my routine.

It was this feeling of powerlessness over my situation that led me to reverting back to old habits and just wanting to distract myself by eating snack foods and watching entertainment media to drown the noise out and fast forward through the day. (This was the day I bought the Pork Rinds and jar of Mixed Nuts)

The weekends demand me to be more flexible, so I have to prepare for that.

Dopamine

I try not to combine consumption habits. I already have very strong neuron associations with eating food and watching media. In fact, when my five year old nephew pulled his iPad out during dinner and tuned into Netflix, my brother compared his behavior to mine.

Focusing one task at a time is the best way to enjoy my food, and the best way to implement mindfulness and avoid cravings and cheating in the future.

Sleep

Initially, OMAD had improved my sleep, as I was able to do so straight through the night without any interruptions.

However, since Day 25, I’ve been waking up more frequently, causing me to sleep-in longer. This has been fun, because going back to sleep increases my chances of lucid dreams, and I’ve had about four since then.

But I do miss the jolt of electricity a full night’s sleep can give you in the morning.

Physique

That increased HGH man.

My upper body is definitely looking a lot more beefy, and it’s not because of the recent extra carbs, as the fiber has still kept me around 20g net carbs. My abs are also filling out, and I’m on track to achieving my “6 Pack” New Year’s Resolution.

I only do no-equipment home workouts, and have actually been repeating the same routine/sets for the entire month, one workout a day for 5-6 days out of the week.

As my energy has increased and muscles improved, I’ve been able to add more intensity, but I have not changed the time intervals (for Abs and HIIT cardio) and rep counts (push ups).

Weight Loss

My Goal weight is 133 lbs. (I’m at 139.8 right now). It was interesting that I plateaued at 137 for a few days before my recent binge, but if I drop too far below in the next 30 days, I’ll at least add avocado back into the diet, and perhaps small snacks, but they should at least be rotated like my regular meals, and not consistently binged on daily.

Conclusion

My overall outlook is positive. There are still a lot of great tasting foods that are sugar free, and I will be able to experience much more of that after my Candida symptoms clear up.

However, I am most excited for the next phase of my diet which would be repopulating my gut flora, especially with some kombucha and kimchi.

My next updates will most likely be at Day 45, which will be a YouTube video, and an article for Day 60.

Finding The Wall: Plateaued Productivity and Leaving Monk Mode

I was afraid when I first started Monk Mode.

I was afraid that I would find toiling away in solitude more preferable to socializing in mainstream society, and that I would find some knowledge, whether about myself or about the world, that would never allow me to return to normal everyday relationships with friends, family, and lovers.

I still have that fear. But I’ve at least discovered now that there can be some limits to my productivity.

I have a stay-at-home job, which is quite conducive to my current status within Monk Mode.

I make my own schedule, and my quota is anywhere between 20-40 hours a week.

At first I tried the standard Mon-Fri, eight-hours-a-day system, but then I realized that no one actually works eight hours straight, because of the lunch breaks.

I also recalled that average workers usually spend their off-time recovering from the expense of drawn-out work days, so I decided to make every day identical but sustainable, and break up the 40 hours across the week.

This was a solid plan, until I hit the wall.

You see, my job actually has a physical limiter on it, as repetitive clicking while reviewing over 135+ items per hour, for several hours a day, will slowly chew away at the tendons between your fingers.

Surprisingly, I was quite relieved when this happened, because my conscientiousness previously would not allow me to dip under the maximum hours available without feeling guilty.

As for now, I can comfortably reach 25 hours a week, with breaks to prevent finger fatigue.

Of course, the other silver lining is that a space has opened up to work on my own personal projects: this blog! The Moon Base MGTOW Project!

However, I realize that suffering from a lack of work only led me to finding more work.

And so, my fear still remains.

Will there ever be a space where my work is not so highly prioritized, and I may potentially establish a stronger social life instead?

Will there ever be a point where I can just “settle down”?

I don’t know.

But I suppose the most moral and logical thing to do with my gifts is to fulfill them until I do reach that wall again: That point when the body goes tired. When the business stops growing. When the well runs dry.

Advertisements

I now look to the man of former potential. How talented he was before his intensified pursuit of women.

Even after his out-of-wedlock child, his art still could have been salvaged.

After work, he could have come home to a single apartment, put his headphones on, and toiled away in his laboratory, only resting on the weekends to raise his child (his version of hitting the wall).

Instead, but still noble, he tried to build a studio at his church, but a flood destroyed his equipment.

Then, as he laid there purposeless and distracted, a woman entered the fray.

Marriage.

Every day now, she will occupy what could have been his great work space. And he will not mourn the lost art he never produced, fore the sensations of his body would validate to him that nothing more of worth can be accomplished now.

And this will last.

But only until he hits that wall.

Until he realizes that he has nothing to show for his life’s work except for what remains of his once youthful woman, and the hope that his child may live to outdo him.

Why Big John Saved MGTOW (Rollo Tomassi Response)

The PUA Industry is drying out as overreaching consent and censorship permeate our society, by way of the #MeToo movement and political correctness.

The more savvy within the industry, like Real Social Dynamics (RSD) pivoted to the self-help industry. However, there are still scraps to be had, and that comprises of people like Rollo Tomassi and others that brand themselves as “Red Pill”.

However, as their audience continues to shrink, they are opting to lash out at peripheral groups, like MGTOW.

Rollo’s latest hot take claims that MGTOW has been infiltrated by grifters, and their growth will only lead them to becoming a target by the mainstream media in the next escalation of the modern Gender Cold War.

Luckily, MGTOW has already handled this problem last year, when CNN conducted a series of interviews for their own investigation:

Thankfully, because of Big John’s interview, MGTOW, to the mainstream media, is nothing more than a bunch of bitter divorcees.

Great, I’ll take it.

Secondly, the rats of MGTOW have already jumped ship, as shortly after this interview aired, YouTube rolled out its “MGTOW Purge” demonetization process.

Most notably, YouTubers Alexander Grace and YogiOabs defected from MGTOW in an effort to preserve their ad dollars.

Since then, MGTOW channels have struggled to stay afloat on YouTube. Top MGTOW content creator TFM has even advocated for other creators to place all their videos under age-restriction (which forgoes monetization), in order to better preserve their videos and channels from being taken down.

As of now, most content creators have a BitChute back up account in preparation for this event.

MGTOW is also very fortunate to have Incel be a big enough group to stand up on it’s own. In fact, many Incels are already defecting from Red Pill and are actively developing “The Black Pill” movement.

Both PUA and Incel groups dislike MGTOW, because MGTOW are willing to disengage from women, while PUA and Incel attach their identities to the validation of women.

PUA’s think MGTOW are “giving up” because they’re not playing the game, and Incels think MGTOW are just in-denial and using it as a coping mechanism.

MGTOW discuss the dangers of relationships and marriage; Incels can’t even get a date. It’s not even the same conversation.

MGTOW is above Red Pill, Rollo. There’s nothing for you to unplug us from.

For the most part, you speak to us through a gate. And while MGTOW can come and go as we please through that gate, you will always remain in the cage.

Is There More To Life? (Than Just Food and Sex)

“Is there more to life?” Is exactly what I asked myself, turning away from a very physically beautiful woman walking by me down the street.

What prompted this question was simply the sheer distraction I suffered from observing her, as my hormones locked in and generated the idea that being with a woman like her is the epitome of life.

And those hormones are 100% right.

After all, the end goal of such an interaction would literally result in more “life” (a baby).

But as a practitioner of fasting and meditation exercises, I’m not one to casually submit to my carnal desires on a whim. I should at least question them.

So, “Is there more to life?

I ask again.

A great few notable men have become quite famous for living their lives either in celibacy or with a keen control of their sexuality.

Various Monk Societies. Isaac Newton. Immanuel Kant. Nikola Tesla. Leonardo Da Vinci. Beethoven. Michelangelo. Aristotle. Freud...

Excelling in their respective fields of Spirituality, Philosophy, Science and Art.

Truthfully though, we do not have to be so esoteric.

The average human being is not living in a constant lower Id state prioritizing only the minimum sustenance required to persist in uninterrupted sexual and sensual activity.

Although those functions may have the strongest biological drives, as humans, we have still managed to develop more creative interests and pursuits that separate us further from the animals.

But if there is no biological drive to pursue those interests, why are we driven towards them?

What parts of our brain are being rewarded when we observe a satisfying piece of art? What drives us to study numbers? To study values? To look at the stars?

What happens to a man when he chooses to take a pause before his food, before his sex, and asks

“Is there more to life?”

What happens to the world?

Its Harder To Come Out As Bisexual Now Than Gay

A gay person is left with only two options: live your life as a full lie, or come out and live the full truth as openly gay.

A bisexual person, however, is less likely to come out because only one of their sexual preferences are socially accepted, encouraging them to suppress their other attraction.

They may convince themselves they could have the best of both worlds at first, enjoying being straight in the day and being gay at night.

However it will dawn on them that no one would ever know the full truth, and that is the source of their frustration and pressure.

While the gay person’s temperament initially would approach that of a boiling tea kettle, the bisexual would struggle to ever reach critical mass as the convenience of the more socially accepted sexual orientation will always cast an internal conflict over the more ostracized sexual preference.

They may self-doubt that their gay tendencies may have developed unnaturally, maybe through a troubled childhood or porn addiction.

They may rationalize that it is too greedy to be attracted to both genders, and they should appreciate that they can still be straight and not cause any trouble by coming out with their other side.

They may realize that even after coming out, neither group would fully accept them, as their same-sex groups will either consider their bisexuality just a phase until they are either fully gay or straight, or both gay and straight groups may carry a constant suspicion that their bisexual partner may randomly leave them at any time for the opposite sex.

And it would be even more devastating for men, as a Glamour magazine survey reported nearly 2/3 of women would not date a bisexual man, and even the notoriously sex-positive Amber Rose, a bisexual woman herself, said she would not feel comfortable dating a bisexual man:

https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/zmbn8x/what-its-really-like-for-women-to-date-bisexual-men

While Gay members suffer the full rejection possible from the straight community, they are at least wholly welcomed into a new one.

Coming out as bisexual may fracture one’s straight-acceptance only to be left with scraps from both gender and orientation groups.

Minimalism and The Pareto Principle: Physical and Mental Mobility

Minimalism is the simple practice and philosophy that one can live (more) with less. It’s a life, mind, and home stripped down to the bare essentials, which can have a variety of effects, ranging from aesthetic appeal and financial gains, to spiritual and mental clarity.

The Pareto Principle states for the average event, 80% of the effects will derive from only 20% of all sources. The rule was first published after economist Vilfredo Pareto demonstrated that 80% of Italy’s land was owned by only 20% of the population. The rule has been applied to many other cases as well, such as crime, income, sports, and even computer programming.

Minimalism and the 80/20 rule have a lot in common: It can be said that a minimalist reducing their possessions to the bare essentials is finding the 20% of their belongings that encompass 80% of their daily life activity.

Mental Mobility

The Mental Mobility claim is realized when a minimalist begins the process of auditing their own personality and belief systems. Let’s start out with the biggest belief system of them all: Religion.

I first used this dual doctrine on my Christianity practice. I stopped reading the Bible in my teens, realizing that I already received my useful 20% because all the most popular stories get retold in Sunday School.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve used less and less of the stories and relied on just a few specific verses that produce 80% of my results:

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” – Matthew 6:33

“The Kingdom of God is within you” – Luke 17:21

“For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.” – Matthew 13:12

“Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” – Mark 12:17

A handful of verses isn’t really that close to being 20% of the entire religion, so this where I have applied the Mobility aspect, to not just restrict myself to one religion, but feel free to find the cream of the crop to encompass the most productive 20% of all Religions.

“Attachment is the root of suffering”

This is a Buddhist teaching.

I am also interested in Tai Chi which has connections to Taoism. Yoga has its roots in Hinduism. I practice Lent even though I was not raised Catholic.

It would seem more minimalist to just select one religion, but it’s not minimalist to adopt all 100% of the entire system.

“Adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own.” – Bruce Lee

By reducing baggage, a minimalist frees up their options. If your whole life could fit into a suitcase or a van, than you could travel on a whim without anything holding you down.

Only take up what is useful, and scan for that 20% in all things.

Why claim a political faction? Find the 20% of policies that are most important to you.

Why be a die-hard for a sports team? Enjoy the 20% of players that dominate the league.

It might even be worthwhile to just start catching the highlights of certain events and videos now instead of tuning into the entire live stream.

I think you get the point.

Simplify your life, and always move freely. Don’t be tied down to anyone or anything, and go your own way.

One of my favorite movies…

Only Dating For Status – MGTOW

My first girlfriend ruined dating for me.

I spent most of high school freshman year under the radar until I started getting recognition for my academic success, which attracted the attention of a pretty cute girl.

I actually had a massive crush on her friend instead, who was much smarter and more interesting, but I never had a girlfriend before, so I took the offer.

I remember the next day in class when a friend of mine metaphorically bared his neck out to me in apology for touching my new girlfriend inappropriately, as he hadn’t heard the news yet.

As the relationship went on, I had to block upperclassmen from staring at her, and even though she wasn’t that popular herself, other students were curious about me and I started meeting new people that way.

However, my choice to vacation in Florida for the summer ended the relationship, and I was back to being a Zero at the start of 10th grade.

But I would never forget what having a pretty girl on your arm did for how I was viewed in the world.

After my first relationship, any girl I would potentially add to my life was estimated against how my friends, family, and the general population would react to it.

I actually want dateless to Prom because I had found out that the Junior girl I was interested in taking wasn’t the good girl I thought she was. People kept trying to set me up with girls after that, even my Principal! But most were below me in status, so I just went with my Bros and danced with those girls later on anyway.

Mutual attraction with a girl didn’t really matter; dating her would be a reflection or extension of me out to the world, so she would have to meet some high standards.

It bothered me for a while that every romantic decision had to be vetted in this way. But now that I am MGTOW, and in Monk Mode for that matter, I’m beginning to realize I might not have been that interested in dating and relationships that much to begin with.

“Sex is all amygdala, not neocortex.”

Is what was told to me during my first time, losing my virginity.

But it seems I have always been wrestling with my biology. I actually put off losing my virginity for so long because I was always hoping I would have a good story to tell if I was ever asked about it.

Everything had to be perfect…

Advertisements

My brother is married and one of our mutual best friends is going to be next. They double date all the time now, and now our old traditions we had when we were all bachelors have become couples-events.

In fact, I was last-minute invited to one of our favorite traditional dinners because there happened to be some extra space, which was unfair because I could have totally gotten a date if I was told ahead of time!

But I suppose they assumed I would go solo, and me being a fifth wheel wasn’t fun for any of us. Even though it’s something that we all used to look forward to every year, I won’t be attending the next one unless I have a date.

In fact, I now only seriously consider a girlfriend when I think about my brother and his friend, because I only want a hot girlfriend just to show them up for those types of events.

There’s plenty of restaurants I want to check out around the city, but that’s really not an exclusive event only reserved for a relationship. In fact, I’d probably much rather enjoy a bigger group of friends to enjoy this with.

I literally only fantasize about having a hot girlfriend for family events and so on, so everyone can see how cool I am because of her.

But outside of that, spending so much time with just one person, only because you are attracted to them, just doesn’t make sense to me anymore.

I’m not getting any social recognition or value by being cooped up under a blanket watching Netflix with my girl.

I would really only want a social girlfriend. I would only date a girl for her status.

But left completely to my own devices, I would just go my own way.

Creativity Is Leisure: Why You Should Consume Only What You Intend To Create

The average individual’s definition of “relaxing” after a long day at work is coming home and watching TV. I see a problem with this, because the first thing you look forward to after spending the whole day producing for someone else, is to now consume from someone else.

Retreating to entertainment media for leisure is actually increasing the total length of time you are passive throughout the day.

What parts of the day are you experiencing something solely derived from you?

If you truly wanted to relax, you could work out, stretch, meditate, or just go to sleep.

But if you can still keep your eyes open, then you can still work.

I know someone who claimed they wanted to get back into their old artistic passion, and decided to wake up at 5 AM in an effort to create space for this new habit.

They never once woke up to do this. The weekend passed and it was back to the same old eat-dinner-and-TV routine right after work.

Why did this person fail? Because they saw the time spent “unwinding” with entertainment media as a necessity, and didn’t register at all that this was the exact old habit that had to be sacrificed to create space for the new habit they desired.

Advertisements

I don’t think entertainment media is all bad. I am a fiction writer and would love to contribute to the industry one day. But lately I haven’t felt the juice for that type of creative work, and it’s most likely because I’m not immersing myself in that type of environment right now.

This is why I said Consume Only What You Intend To Create; If you want to make movies, by all means, watch movies! But if you’re not going to work on your script, or at least write a movie review about it afterwards, then seriously, you’re just masturbating.

“Energy Flows Where Attention Goes” – Tony Robbins

We need to stop putting our energy towards things that are going to result in dead-ends.

You have to be even more mindful about what you consume especially if you are an artist or entrepreneur, because of your easily stimulated imagination. Hardly anything is a true dead-end because you can extract some artistic value or a business idea from almost anything. But this sort of behavior can spread yourself thin.

And you know the exact type of people I’m talking about; the ones that always have a brilliant new idea and plans, but never actually produce anything in the long run.

It’s because they have not allowed that space for themselves to create, and are most likely filling up their time with passive, unfruitful garbage.

I could even extend this idea to MGTOW. If a man has already identified that he will not extend any long-term commitments to any woman, then there is truly nothing of lasting value that can be created through your relationships with women. Short-term dating thus becomes another form of cheap entertainment.

So, finally, Creativity Is Leisure.

After I’m done working, heck, even between breaks, I’m at my blog site and drafting a new article to publish. And now, editing videos! (Here’s my first one). It’s only when my laptop finally dies and is recharging that I can turn on YouTube or read some articles on mobile to enjoy other creatives that have common interests.

I think I just began to realize that with all the media I consumed over the years I have very little to actually show for it. But by becoming a content creator myself, I can develop my own personal media library, and have something to contribute alongside the other creatives I’m inspired by.

I’m always thinking about what skill or content I can offer to a community.

There’s no reason why we have to always sit on the sidelines and be spectators; Always the worker and never the boss. We should all have an opportunity to express ourselves and have our own voice.

Creativity is Leisure simply because working for yourself, and expressing yourself, should always be the most fun. Even in your passive state, your antennas should always be up looking for the next point of inspiration.

If you want to relax, go to sleep, so you can have more energy to do the important work the next day.

But if your eyes are still open, see yourself through greatness, and not through the reflection of a screen.

And I’ll SEE YOU on the Far Side, my friend — Monk Moon Base

You Are What You Produce And Consume: Not A Product Of Your Environment

I can recall a lecture from Sadhguru where a student had asked for advice on maintaining his spiritual practice while back home with his distracting family members.

Sadhguru answered, in short, that your spirituality should never be so fragile.

“It is the power of the mind to be unconquerable.” – Seneca

I started to come to this knowledge during my own health journey, as I’m approaching three weeks of my Anti-Candida version of the Keto Diet, and also eating only one-meal-a-day to set the difficulty rating on Hardcore mode.

I have failed many times in the past, and I had considered quitting entirely on several occasions, stating that until I moved away into my own place, I would never be able to avoid giving in to the off-menu items my other housemates regularly consume.

I was giving myself an excuse to be mediocre until I was handed the opportunity to be great.

What nonsense. You can’t blame people or your environment for your failures.

When I finally reach my goal weight, I would have been the only person to have done it for myself. Likewise, I was the only person responsible for gaining all the weight to begin with. No one else ate the food for me, and no one else could lose it for me either.

Seeing yourself as separate from your environment is a tool for Self-Mastery, as where you are and who you are with will never become a reason to compromise on your principles.

Your environment slowly becomes only yourself, and your abilities, focusing only on the things within your control. And the most immediate thing you can change, in any environment, is yourself and your opinions on the matter.

The bag of chips on the counter; the fresh brewed coffee in the kitchen; the donuts out on the table; if none of them align with your own personal values, then they do not become part of your ecosystem; They simply belong to someone else.

You don’t just pull clothes off mannequins and electronics off shelves at stores; there are boundaries in place that we respect. In turn, you must build your own personal boundaries out of self-respect for yourself.

It takes too much effort to change your environment anyway, as it is far too rigid with too many authors attached to it. Conversely, relying on your environment to help you produce results is also unwise as it can prove unpredictable with the amount of variables that are able to run through it.

You should treat everything around you in this life as a total accident, but what you choose to create and consume are complete deliberate actions.

Where you are right now is exactly where you need to be, because you’re not actually here anyway.

You’re always here. Right here. In your mind!

“Remember that the ruling faculty is invincible, when self-collected it is satisfied with itself, if it does nothing which it does not choose to do, even if it resist from mere obstinacy. What then will it be when it forms a judgment about anything aided by reason and deliberately? Therefore the mind which is free from passions is a citadel, for man has nothing more secure to which he can fly for refuge and for the future be inexpugnable. He then who has not seen this is an ignorant man; but he who has seen it and does not fly to this refuge is unhappy.”

Marcus Aurelius

Warren Buffet: The One Reminder To Not Stress Out On Your Health Journey

Warren Buffett, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway and third wealthiest person in the world, celebrated his 89th birth day in August with McDonald’s for breakfast, ice cream for lunch, and candies and Coca-Cola all around.

Oh, wait, no. That’s just his average every day diet.

Buffett is notorious for literally putting his money where his mouth is, as he has purchased both See’s Candies and the Dairy Queen franchise all because they were his go-to snack foods.

“I checked the actuarial tables, and the lowest death rate is among six-year-olds. So I decided to eat like a six-year-old. It’s the safest course I can take.” – Warren Buffet

It could be a rare case of superior genetics that allows his body to break down the high-salt and high-sugar diet to keep him happily skipping well above the US average life span.

But it’s also likely that it is merely the reduction of stress on Buffett’s part that is not inhibiting his metabolism. Even though all his assets rank at Top 3 in wealth in the world, Buffet still keeps things simple, using coupons to buy lunch for Bill Gates, and still living in the same house he bought at 28 years old in his hometown.

“My life couldn’t be happier. In fact, it’d be worse if I had six or eight houses. So, I have everything I need to have, and I don’t need any more.” – Warren Buffet.

2014 Shareholders Meeting

It appears Buffett makes money just for the hell of it, but he has clearly checked off all of the boxes on Maslow’s Hierarchy, and a minimalist mindset only maximizes the enjoyment of the bigger expenses he can make on his billionaire budget.

Surely, you may think Buffett could drop dead any day now, but Richard Overton, who was America’s oldest war veteran, living up to 112 years, was notorious for smoking a dozen cigars and drinking whiskey on his porch daily, and capping the night off with ice cream.

It seems ever since the Government got involved with dietary standards, people have been getting sicker, with obesity, heart disease, and cancers running wild.

This has led to a Wild West in the health and dieting world. But while the Vegans and Carnivores are at each other’s throats, and everyone in between are claiming to be the best diet for health and longevity, more and more of these quirky elders and centenarians are showing up defying the odds with their “whatever you want” dietary plans.

It truly begs the question if a healthy mind is really the starting point to achieving a healthy or long-lasting body.

If somebody told me that I live a year longer by eating nothing but broccoli and asparagus from now on…every day will seem like as long. I’ll stick with the Cheetos and the Coke.” – Warren Buffet

So, what’s my prescription?

Well, “everything in moderation” used to be pretty solid advice, but these outliers seem to throw that out the window.

Maybe Buffett, Overton, and others are exceptions to the rule, and we shouldn’t use them as prime health examples.

But I suppose what can be learned from them is to keep it simple and stress-free. It appears stress is the factor that ages you the fastest, as we can remember the pictures of Bush Jr. and Obama before and after their 8 years in office, and it looks more like they served 20.

Should we just focus on meeting all of our needs?

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

This is just one example for it, but truthfully you could be even simpler: Whatever you need to do to be stress-free is the most important thing.

If you are sick, then by all means help your body to recover and be strong enough to be able to enjoy the sweet foods you would like to have by focusing on health and immunity supporting foods while your body repairs.

I have Candida overgrowth, so I’m going on a strict diet for a while to help clear that up and repair my gut lining, but who knows what will happen after that?

Even though sticking to a strict diet may feel like an everyday battle sometimes, it might just be exactly what my body needs until I get the bigger stresses from my life handled first.

Being debt-free with a healthy savings account and free time to work on my hobbies would be an excellent outlook on life for me.

It’s about waking up every day only looking forward, as nothing else is holding you back in life anymore. You’ve met all your major responsibilities, so just relax on your porch, or keep going to work stress-free and create. The happiness in your heart and the sereneness of your mind will keep the rest of your body at ease despite what you put into it.

Or maybe you don’t have to reach anywhere in life, but actually start taking things away, as minimalists often do. Reducing your life down to just the bare essentials is an easy way to feel like you already have enough in life to live with fewer distractions and desires. If you’re not chasing that new thing, you can finally sit still and let life come to you.

Do whatever you need to do to simplify your life. Take care of the mind first, then wonder about your stomach.
